3yrs in a row!

The Calgary Flames have missed the playoffs again. Let the autopsy begin. Finger pointing, name calling, gnashing of teeth will and should follow any season that does not result in a championship.

The real question is what to do next? Or right now for that matter.

The culture of the team must change. How this change will be implemented will define the direction the franchise takes for the next years.

Generally the coaching staff is the easiest way to alter the state of any franchise. The current head coach of the team does not have a contract beyond this season. If the desire to change the coach is there it is an easy task. Simply look elsewhere. The current staff has not been able consistently hold the attention of the current lineup. At times they have seemed unprepared, uninterested, and unmotivated. All traits that must change moving forward.

3 years is a long time, it is the usual duration of a NHL coaching contract. With not one playoff appearance to his credit, it's hard to justify bringing back the head coach with the same group. If he does return, it should be to lead an extremely different cast of players.
